What started as a hamburger stand in 1957 has become one of Cape Cod's most enduring restaurants. Pate's is still where Chatham gathers.
The beginning on Main Street
On July 1st, 1957, Cloyde Pate opened a hamburger and ice cream stand on Main Street. Locals came for the food, stayed for the company, and kept coming back season after season.
A gathering place for generations
Engagements, anniversaries, birthday dinners, family reunions — Pate's has been the backdrop for more of Chatham's milestones than any single address should hold. The bonds between staff and guests, summer after summer, are as much a part of the place as the building itself.
New stewards, same spirit
The Gardner family — Cape natives who grew up knowing this place — took the reins with one clear purpose: renovate thoughtfully and protect what made Pate's worth caring about. They see themselves as curators of a tradition, not just owners of a restaurant.
What comes out of the kitchen
Fresh local seafood, prime cuts, and chef's specials driven by Cape Cod farms and fishermen. Monday nights belong to the 14oz roast prime rib — a ritual that's become a local institution.
Pull up a chair
Returning after twenty years or walking in for the first time — there's always room for you here. Reserve a table, sit at the bar, or bring the whole family.
